December 3, 2002

Okay-- sorry for the web-log hiatus.

Just to review-- I have been introducing you to the characters in my next book, Sarah's Page 2. So far we've met Dr. Ginsberg, Mr. Jarvis, Mr. Bennett and Mrs. Barberi, all teachers in my new school.

Now let's meet my new home-buds. (That's a new word I just came up with-- Home-Buds. Whadday think?)

Ramona-- well, what can you say about Ramona? Here's one thing you can say: She's annoying. She's really pale and skinny with stringy blonde hair and BIG blue eyes and BIG glasses. When she runs, it's like all her arms and legs are pumping in different directions. And she is the world's original KNOW-IT-ALL. The problem is, in some areas, she kinda DOES know it all. Like when it comes to computers. Ouch. That hurts. Usually I am the class help-girl when it comes to technology. The deal is, if it has to do with a computer, ask Sarah. Well, Ramona knows more than I do. Not that people ask her-- but they should. She like built her own machine from parts-- that's all I'm saying.

But the OTHER area where she acts like a know-it-all is with horses. And there she really doesn't know it all. Actually, she's like a horsy hypochondriac. She's always diagnosing her horse with some strange disease, then she proceeds to treat the poor beast. The problem is, she's always diagnosing OTHER people's horses too. Which is really-- annoying. The biggest problem is that while most of the time she is just being alarmist, there is this small percentage of the time when she is RIGHT. So you have to listen to her, even though you don't want to.

Next time, Nick.
December 5, 2002

Nick is one of those good guys. Just kinda quiet, kinda normal. Mr. Jarvis really trusts him with the horses b/c he is so cool. You know how horses get all freaked out with hyper people-- like Ramona. Well Nick is the opposite. He's just calm. And the horses are like, "Hey man, if you're cool, I'm cool."

What's really hard to figure out about Nick, though, is that he is friends with Ramona. YEAH. No kidding. I think it's because he is so unflappable. All those things about Ramona that drive any normal person crazy-- they just don't' FLAP him.

The other cool thing about Nick is that he's a reader. He's into mysteries though, which you guys know aren't really my bag. But it's cool to go over to the barn to do chores and see him there waiting for his ride just plowing through one of his mysteries.

Next time, the SGGs
December 7, 2002

SGG stands for "Special Girls Group." It's this nickname I gave to this group of girls in our class. I call them the SGGs cuz that's the way everyone thinks of them. They are like so pretty and so tight and so popular.

Mallory is the queen of the SGGs. She's tall and thin with this long straight curtain of red hair. She's got this awesome smile and awesome laugh- it sounds like bells ringing. All the guys are just dazzled by her. I don't blame them-- when she turns her charm on you, you feel as if you've just been elected Mayor of the World. Mallory has a big, beautiful EXPENSIVE gray horse whose name is Lake Effect. As if total gorgeousness and popularity weren't enough, Mal is a fantastic rider.

Liz and Kathy are rest of the SGGs. They are twins and are best friends with Mallory. They are smaller, with short, curly, bobbed hair. It's almost impossible to tell them apart, except that Kathy is more outgoing and Liz is a little shier. They ride two adorable little Morgan horses that are so perfectly matched, you can't tell THEM apart either!
